Arnold Wellington Kirk, age 89 of Alvin, passed away on August 7, 2017. He was born on August 4, 1928 in Milano, Texas to parents, Marvin Lewis Kirk and Annie Mae (Blankenship) Kirk. He married the love of his life, Reba Beatrice Coates, on November 10, 1949 in Cameron, Texas. They moved to Alvin in 1956 and found their home, as well as their church home at Alvin Missionary Baptist Church. Arnold served his country in the U.S. Army from 1945 – 1947 and stood guard at the First National Bank of Japan. He also served in the Merchant Marines.
Arnold worked very hard to support his family through his talent as a boilermaker and was a member of Boilermaker Local Union 132. He was an avid squirrel, coon and hog hunter and fisherman. He also tried his luck panning for gold in Montana with his best friend Larry Turner.
Arnold was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Reba Beatrice Kirk; his parents, Marvin and Annie Mae Kirk; sons: James Kirk and Bruce Kirk; and siblings: Katherine, Thomas, Virgil, Silas, James, Andy, Peggy, Jerry, Joann, and Nell “Jeannie” Kirk.
He is survived by his children: Larry Kirk and wife Connie of Alvin, Marvin Kirk and wife Pam of Portland, Donnie Kirk and partner Benny Bage of Alvin, Donna Kirk Smith and husband Rick of League City, and daughter-in-law Judy Kirk; grandchildren: Kathie, Jimmy, Marcus, Erin, Andy, Ashley, Justin, and Caleb; great grandchildren: Lauren, Gavin, Kaylyn, Micah, Brooklyn, Trace, Hayes, Ava, Davis, Lily, Kavi and Karan; and various nieces, nephews and cousins.
