Cameron LaRue Higgins

September 23, 1925 ~ October 11, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Cameron LaRue Higgins, 92, was born on September 23, 1925 in Lissie, Texas and passed away peacefully with his beloved wife of 72 years by his side on October 11, 2017. LaRue accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior as a teenager. He was a lifelong Baptist until moving to Dime Box, Texas where he enjoyed worshipping at the Brethren Church.

He was proud to have served in the Merchant Marines and in the United States Army during World War II. He was an avid reader and always looked forward to his six weekly newspapers from the Alvin, Dime Box, and Eagle Lake areas. He always enjoyed drinking his coffee and anything to do with agriculture or history. LaRue loved watching old westerns, the Fox News channel, and cooking shows. His favorite past time was cooking and sharing meals with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He could talk to anyone having never met a stranger. He was a 3rd generation rice farmer in the Alvin area as well as raising his beloved Brangus cattle.

LaRue was preceded in death by his parents, Cameron and Alma Higgins; sons, Jimmy and Pat, daughter-in-law, Tommie; brother, Stanley; grandson, Mike; and very dear aunt, Tilda Segelquist.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Marian Robinson Higgins; children: Vicki Franklin and husband Skeet of Phoenix, Susan Stewart and husband Malcolm of Houston, and Brian Higgins of California; brothers and sisters: Ernestine Long, Buddy Higgins and wife Anna Lee, Harry Higgins and wife Glenda, Johnny Higgins, JoAnn Turner, Billy Higgins and wife Dorothy, Mike Higgins and wife Jackie; grandchildren: Candi Cox and husband Kevin, Larry Higgins, Cameron Franklin, Jamie Sparacino and husband John, Valerie Higgins, Samantha Stewart, Patrick Stewart and wife Morgan, Helen Higgins and husband Dwain, Shae Harwin and husband Miller, Nicole Sauceda and husband Jaime; great grandchildren: Ashley Higgins, Jimi Frausto, Joseph Cox, Marissa Kate Roach, Tommy LaRue Roach, Micah Oberlin, and Price Sparacino; very close cousin, Corky Segelquist; and numerous nieces and nephews.

LaRue will be missed, but most importantly for his loved ones, there are great memories of his contagious smile, his wonderful sense of humor, his countless meals, and his steadfast devotion to his family and friends. He was truly a role model in his love for God and family and was the definition of an optimist.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Park Funeral Home with Pastor Al Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Confederate Cemetery.
