Ell Edward Simpson

November 3, 1926 ~ October 18, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old


Ell Edward Simpson, 90, of Santa Fe went to be with the Lord on October 18, 2017. He was born on November 3, 1926 in Saratoga, Texas to parents Thomas and Eva (Andress) Simpson. Ell grew up in Shepherd and enlisted in the United States Navy 0n October 31, 1944. He started his military service in San Diego, California for boot camp. After his initial training he was shipped to the island of Saipan, where he held the billet of a plane captain. His job was to go up and down the airstrip in an oil truck filling up planes and making sure the gauges read right. He was discharged in 1946. He was called back up in 1951 to serve in the Korean Conflict. Ell served aboard the U.S.S. Badoeng Strait (CVE 116), then aboard the U.S.S. Essex (CV-9) in the same capacity as on Saipan. He was finally discharged from the United States Navy on June 15, 1952. He ended his service by earning The American Area Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Area, World War II Victory, Korean Service, and United Nations Service Medals. He married his loving wife of 66 years on September 9, 1951 at Arcadia Christian Church. After his service to our country ended in 1952 they made their home in Santa Fe. They joined the Arcadia Christian Church where they worshiped and served as a family.  He was an operator for Union Carbide and retired in 1985. When time permitted, he loved to get away for a round of golf.

Ell was preceded in death by his parents and by his son Sherman Simpson. Left to remember him are his precious wife Nadie Simpson of Santa Fe, son Gordon Simpson of Santa Fe, daughter Carolyn Simpson Horton of Pearland, grandchildren: Anthony Horton, Katrina Simpson, Kristina Simpson- Girod and Kaylene Simpson; great grandchild Hayden Blake Girod; and numerous other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Arcadia Christian Church, 14201 Bariton Street, Santa Fe, Texas  77517. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Arcadia Christian Church with interment following at Alta Loma Cemetery.
