On Saturday, August 24, 2019, Harles Thompson, Jr. (84) of Manvel, Texas passed away. Harles was born to Elizabeth (Ray) Thompson and Harles Thompson, Sr. on February 3, 1935 in Oakdale, Louisiana. Harles graduated Oakdale High School and attended college in Louisiana before enlistment in the United States Army led him to Texas. Harles served in the Army at Fort Hood, Texas, where he met his future wife, Texas native, Alice "Freddie" Smith. After his military service, Harles and Freddie moved to Houston, where they raised a family. Harles worked many years in the Houston business community, including the Houston Police Department, Wilson Supply Company, and Tenneco before retiring from the City of Alvin Parks Department. In his spare time Harles enjoyed bowling, camping, going to the beach, watching sports, and watching classic Westerns on TV. He was a long time member of the Z-Krewe, a Mardis Gras Krewe in Galveston that provides volunteer hours and financial support to local charities.
Harles was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janice Strother. He is survived by his children, Lane Thompson (Denise), Todd Thompson (Beth Milam), Amy Scarborough (Joe), and Tari Sarabia (Emilio) as well as his grandchildren, Rachel Vasek (Ty), Jake Scarborough, Brittany Thompson, and Courtney Thompson, who affectionately called him Paw Paw, as well as many friends and colleagues.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 2:00pm at Froberg Funeral Home, at Oak Park, 300 Oak Park Drive, Alvin, TX 77511. Visitation will be held prior the service at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude, the Galveston County Food Bank or Gulf Coast Big Brothers/ Big Sisters.
