Iva Jean (Miller) Jorgensen, age 84, of Houston passed away on Friday, February 22, 2019. She was born on January 6, 1935, in Morris, Oklahoma , to parents, William Riley and Virginia Lee (Murrell) Miller. Iva retired from Rice University as the Department Coordinator of Computer Science.
She enjoyed reading and watching shows about “true crime,” baking, feeding and watching her birds, gardening and spending time with family. She was especially passionate about genealogy research and politics describing herself as a yellow dog Democrat. Jean “never met a stranger” and made friends easily. She was a wonderful story teller and loved to laugh. A quote from a graduate student upon her retirement sums up Jean’s personality, “Iva Jean’s door should have a sign that says: ‘Come get your smile back!’”
Iva was preceded in death by her husband, Svend Jorgensen; her parents, Riley and Virginia Miller; brother, Max Miller; and children Richard Hadayia and Judy Theroux.
Left to cherish the many memories are her children: Slinda Edmonson, Mary Baker and husband Andy, and Carol Tosh and husband Ditrik; siblings: Bob Miller, David Miller and Susan Ross; grandchildren: Marcus, Jason, Jennifer, Shawna, Stephen, John, Jessica, Austin, Joshua, Iris, Logan and Larsen; as well as numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, many other family members and friends.
