Katherine Hawman Obituary

Katherine Leila Hawman passed away peacefully, at home, on December 24, 2017 in the arms of her son Daniel and daughter Carol, with their voices easing her departure from this life. She was born August 24, 1936, in Waltersboro, SC and moved to Texas with her parents and brother. Katherine graduated from Alvin High School in 1954 where she also met her first husband, James (Jim) B. Carlisle. With Jim, Katherine had and raised six children. At the age of 30 (approx), Katherine earned a degree in registered nursing and pursued a career in this beloved field for many years. Later in life, she met and married Norman “Bud” D. Hawman and remained with him until his passing in 2005. While they lived in Sun City West, AZ, Katherine joined womens’ crafting groups and made many stuffed dolls and toys for donation to local fire and police departments to be give to children in traumatic situations. Katherine was also an avid quilter and seamstress, and passed along what she could of her knowledge and creativity to her daughters. Upon Bud’s passing, Katherine moved back to the Houston area to be near her children and grandchildren. At the time of her passing, Katherine was living with her daughter Carol in Omaha, Ne.

Katherine leaves behind her daughter, Carol Graham of Omaha, son Daniel Carlisle of Spring, TX, daughter Nancy Carlisle of Magnolia, TX along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, J.E. and Leila O’Quinn Mitchell, her brother J.E. Mitchell, Jr., son James Andrew Carlisle, son John David Carlisle, daughter Judith Carlisle, and grandsons Shane and Jeremy.

Katherine will be missed by all who loved her.
