I just found this posting today. I was adopted back into the same family back in May of 1967. Minnie Stelzer Cobb is my biological great-grandmother and Louise Cobb Lewis, "Pistol Pete's" sister, is my biological grandmother. Although, she wouldn't want you to know that, I am sure. I am the first child of Donna Sue Lewis, Louise's daughter. Donna was only 16 when she had me, and back then, one was rushed off to care for an aunt or grandmother and the child was adopted. Fortunately, Dr. Knight knew both of our families and I was lucky enough to have a cousin raise me. Lonza is, was, my biological great uncle. I would have liked to have known him. He sounds like he was a great guy, willing to go the extra mile. Frances Stelzer, my adopted mother, is Minnie Stelzer's brother's child. George Frank Stelzer, Sr. was Lonza's uncle on his mother's side. I appreciate your telling of "Pistol Pete's" character, personality, and what he enjoyed. It is very similar to how I am, and my children are. There are definitely certain parts of your personality that are inherited and parts that are acquired through life experience and environment. Although I do not think I ever met Lonza in life, we share the same blood and personality traits. I did get to meet Jabie (JB) Cobb when I was about nine years old. My adopted grandmother, Edna Regina Stelzer Yeary, took me to see Jabie. All I remember about that encounter was that I rode a cow! There were other children there, but I did not know at that time that they were my cousins. We spent the day at his house back in 1976. Thank you for posting this obituary. It gives me insight into the family that I did not know personally, but know through patterns of behavior, personality, and dashing good looks! Happy day to you! I know I will get to meet Pistol Pete after transcendence. Until then, I wish him well and look forward to sharing stories in the future.
