Ottilia Benavides Obituary

Ottilia “Tilly” R. Benavides, age 70 of Alvin, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 27, 2018. She was born on August 18, 1947 in St. Paul, Minnesota to parents, Alfonso Manuel and Anna (Fragagnano) Rodriguez. She was a lifetime resident of Alvin, brought up in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and at her death a member of Abundant Life Christian Center. Tilly married the love of her life, Theodore “Ted” Benavides on December 7, 1972 in Alvin at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

As a result of being a breast cancer survivor, Tilly made and donated 275 heart-shaped pillows for patients at the Heart Institute, MD Anderson Hospital and Women’s Prisons. Tilly was a caretaker/homemaker in her profession, but she also just loved to care for everyone. She loved her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved watching The Golden Girls, crafting, cooking and garage sales. She also enjoyed listening to her brother’s band “Willie’s Boys” when they played.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Anna Rodriguez; sister-in-law, Melinda Rodriguez; and treasured friend, Jane Lewis.

Left to cherish Tilly’s memory is her husband, Ted Benavides; her children: Jason Bell of Alvin, Brandon Benavides and wife Laura of Humble, Melinda Montoya and husband Rafael of Alvin, and Michelle Bellew and husband Jason of Clear Lake; brothers: Mario Rodriguez and wife Shirley, Humberto “Squeaky” Rodriguez, and Ricky Rodriguez all of Alvin; sister, Elisa Franco; grandchildren: Cassidy Bell, Joseph Benavides, Julie Benavides, Shelby Benavides, Alex Benavides, Ava Benavides, Vallery Thompson, Anthony Lopez, Gabriel Lopez, Mackenzie Bellew, Karlie Bellew, Rafael Montoya III, Ricky Montoya, and Mia Montoya; and great grandchildren: Aleaha Montoya, Ricky Montoya, Jr., Kamila Lopez, and Kaysen Wayne Wheeler.

In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates contributions to Oak Park Funeral Home to defray funeral expenses.
