Barbara LaNelle Gaddy, stepped into the Light of God’s presence on September 12, 2022 at 8:55 pm. She is now content in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Barbara was born December 12, 1937 in Flat, Texas to her parents Clyde E. Patterson and Sylvia Opal Patterson. She grew up in Sweeny Texas and attended Sweeny High school where she played basketball and volleyball, and was a Sweeny Bulldog football maid sweetheart.
On Sept 1, 1956, she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Gaddy Jr. and was his devoted wife for 62 years. Barbara was the mother of two children , daughter Elisa Gaddy-Later of Magnolia and son James Randall ‘Randy’ Gaddy of Alvin. She is grandmother “Nana” of twelve grandchildren; Jason Miglicco (Cheryl Miglicco) , Stacey Sullivan, Natalie Brown (Alex Brown), Asa Gaddy (Sharon Gaddy), Cade Gaddy (Kyleigh Gaddy), Alex Gaddy, Haley Gaddy, Chris Brown, Ryan Later (Kali Later), Deven Later (Candis Later), Jared Later (Sabrina Later), and Amanda Later (deceased). She is survived by twenty four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Harold, and son Randy.
Barbara loved living and serving in Alvin and loved being an Alvinite. She loved her family and community. She was a pioneer, blazing a trail for women, as she became Alvin Police Department’s first female police officer / juvenile officer. Barbara attended LSU in 1970 and studied Criminal Justice where she ranked first in her class. After retiring from the APD, she went on to work as a Security Officer for Dow Chemical for many years and loved every minute of it.
Barbara was a devoted Christian woman and a member of Alvin Missionary Baptist Church where she established many wonderful friendships over the years. She loved being involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. Her family and friends will always remember her as a happy, loving and caring person who loved The Lord.
