Franklin (Frank) Madison Stanford, Sr., age 86, of Friendswood passed away on March 16, 2020. He was born on August 21, 1933 in Beaumont, Texas to parents, Leland Ray Stanford, Sr. and Merle Belle Cole.
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Myrtle Lee (May), his parents, Leland Ray Sr, Merle Belle Jones, and his brother, Leland Ray Jr.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Dottie Jean Linkugel and Franklin Madison Stanford, Jr. and wife Katherine; brother, John Stanford and wife Linda; grandchildren: Meredith Helm and husband Kevin, Travis Keever and wife Susan, Franklin Stanford, III, Rachel Linkugel, Colin Dafft, and Kyle Dafft; and great grandchildren: Brady, Bennett and Blakely Helm, and Jack Carbo.
Frank served both in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Army, retiring in 1975 after 20 years of service. Frank served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He later joined the U.S. Army and participated in the Tet Offensive in Viet Nam. Frank’s duties took him to many locations including Taiwan, Germany, Puerto Rico and various states in the U.S.A.
Franklin enjoyed many hobbies. One of his biggest thrills was learning to fly, in his eighties! He especially enjoyed talking with his CB buddies, where he was known as “The Old Man,” and chatting with people all across the country.
Frank was special to all who knew him, and he always had a story to tell, even it if was a little embellished. He will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
