Gilbert LaVon Swagger, Sr. age 95 of Alvin, was reunited with his wife on June 18, 2020. He was born in Kellog, Iowa to parents Gilbert Swagger and Delsye (Cunningham) Swagger on December 6, 1924. He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Marie Swagger on September 12, 1946 in Moline, Kansas.
LaVon served in WWII and missed going to the Normandy Invasion by one day. He took his carrier the next day to Juno Beach. After finishing there he was sent to the Rhine River and was shot in the leg and discharged from duty, honorably. Vonnie made his career in construction and had the opportunity to live in many cities in and around Texas. In 1969, he started his own Sandpit business and grew it by loading and moving sand. He was one of the best dragline operators around. Vonnie was blessed to have retired at 52 and enjoyed a full and wonderful life with his family. He was a very loved and a very caring person and a God fearing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline (Gentry) Swagger; parents, Gilbert and Delsye Swagger.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Sandy Swagger-Simons of Centerville, Linda Swagger-Bergstrom of Humble, and Gilbert LaVon Swagger, Jr. of Grapeland; grandchildren: Louise LaVon Swetlik, Brandy Swagger, Troy Von Swagger, Emily Swagger, Emelia Swagger, Michael Chiasson, Erik Chiasson, and Axl Chiasson; great grandchildren: Cameron Connell, Cody Connell, Randi Danielle Burns-Swetlik, Magnus Chiasson, and Jeanne Rae Chiasson; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
