Javier Cantu, age 53, passed away on February 8, 2020 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on March 8, 1966 in Weslaco, Texas to parents, George Cantu Jr. and Ofelia Zamora. Javier moved from La Feria to Alvin forty years ago and had been a resident ever since. He was a member at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Javier enjoyed listening to music, helping others in need and most of all being a Grandfather (Popo).
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsa Rodriguez; his parents, George Cantu Jr. and Ofelia Zamora; and his brother, Jaime Cantu.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Ashley Cantu, Xavier Cantu, Dana Ramos, Kenneth Ramos, Rhonda Rodriguez, Heriberto Villanueva, Oscar Rodriguez, Lori Rodriguez; his siblings: Elva Cantu, Joel Cantu, and George Cantu III; and grandchildren: Erin, Evelyn, Elsa, Emilee, Dylan, Izabella, Bianca, Milynda, Meah, Ielexas, Brandon, Issack, Andres, and Jasmine.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Oak Park Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father John Taosan officiating. Interment will follow in procession to Confederate Cemetery.
