John Perez, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Cornerstone Hospital in Webster, Texas, following complications from surgery.
He was born on February 9, 1942 at UTMB in Galveston, Texas. John and his sister, Pura, were the first set of twins in the Perez family.
As a youngster, John attended the Texas School for the Blind in Austin TX.
The treatment John required immediately after his premature birth, caused the loss of his sight
At the Texas School for the Blind, John learned mobility skills and to read in Braille.
Despite his visual disability, he lived in an apartment in Houston and was able to get around the city independently on public transit.
While living in Houston, he worked at the Lighthouse for many years. He met Cecelia in Houston and was married to her until her death approximately 10 years ago. Shortly after, he became a resident of the Winchester Lodge Healthcare Center in Alvin. And later he became a resident of The Lakes at Texas City.
He spent the majority of his time reading books and magazines that provided him with informative information on current events. He was able to form opinions on any topic during our family gatherings, and he also demonstrated a great sense of humor. In addition to reading, he enjoyed listening to music; the oldies, Tejano, and Gospel music
John was preceded in death by his two sisters Pura and Mary Perez, his parents, John and Mary Perez and his wife Cecilia Perez.
John is survived by his brothers Phillip (Lan) of Houston, the second set of Perez twins, Robert (Josie), and Victor (Mary) of Alvin, Daniel (Janie) of South San Francisco, sisters, Angie Villarreal of Houston, and Mary Linda Gonzalez (Rudy) of League City, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
