Larry Williams Obituary

Larry Carl Williams, age 72 of Alvin passed away on July 4, 2019. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on February 26, 1947 into the Rains Family.

Larry was the second to oldest child of four: older half-sister Yvonne; and younger sisters, Geneva and Elizabeth. At age five he and his younger sister, Geneva, were adopted by a wonderful couple, the Williams’ of Florida and their son Gus.

Before he graduated high school, he quit to go into the Army. He served three years active duty in Germany. After he was honorably discharged, he continued his education, acquired his GED and attended junior college. It was then that he began his journey up the east coast working as an automotive mechanic. This journey ended in Washington where he lived for many years.

After about a 50 year separation, he became sick with pneumonia and Geneva brought him down to Friendswood, Texas to stay. There they enjoyed the last nine years together.

Larry was a very quiet man who loved to sit outside and watch the miniature horses, goats, and chickens that roamed on the ranch which Geneva and her husband, Paul Bates purchased shortly after he came down from Washington. His favorite pastime was watching TV and DVD movies.

He appreciated life and laughter. He dearly loved the family gatherings and would often just sit in the corner and watch and listen to the commotion going on around him. Never having children of his own, he dearly loved being with his niece, Betty-Jo Maxwell and her children, Ashna, and O’ryan. They brought him so much joy.

When asked if he knew the Lord, he proudly answered that he did.

Even though his life was not always pleasant, he never seemed to complain even when he was placed in a nursing home. He loved his visits with Geneva and the day before he passed, he talked her into taking him to Walmart to buy a new tv and DVD player. They laughed and shared a great day out on the town together. This will always be one of her favorite memories of him as she reflects back on their lives.

He was a good and sweet brother, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed. Thank you Lord for placing him in our lives.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Betty Williams; and sister, Elizabeth Hall.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters: Geneva Bates and husband Paul, and Yvonne Carrie; niece: Betty Jo Maxwell, husband Michael and their children Ashna and O’ryan.
