Margie Mary Hechler Whitaker passed away from this life on September 28, 2022, after a brief illness. Born in Crosby, Texas, April 3, 1926, to John and Mary Hechler (Owens), she grew up in a large family with many siblings in Alta Loma, Texas. Brothers included Manuel, Eugene (Gene) and Raymond (RJ) and sisters, Ann Prunty and Mary Heygood (all deceased) and she is survived by her loving sisters, Johnnie Little, Dorothy Matejka (Tommy) and Angie Gwin, all of Santa Fe.
Margie graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1944 and married the love of her life, Neil Whitaker. They made their home in Alta Loma and then Corpus Christi for work. Moving back to Alta Loma, they owned Alta Loma Cement Products for many years. Moving to Alvin with their two daughters, Debra Darlene (Hawkins) and Cheryl Ann (Brunson), Margie loved being a wonderful mother, great cook, excellent seamstress and working with her husband in real estate. After the girls were married, she and Neil moved to Liverpool where they owned many local businesses and her love for politics grew. Margie was also a member of the Catholic Church.
In her recent years, Margie spent her time with daughter, Cheryl, in Hockley, Texas, and loved to work crossword puzzles, put together jigsaw puzzles, play marbles and cards.
Margie was preceded in death by husband Neil Whitaker and daughter, Debra Darlene Hawkins.
Margie is survived by daughter, Cheryl (Whitaker) Brunson; special son-in-law, Eddie Hawkins; her grandchildren Travis (Kimberly) Hawkins, of Alvin, Heather (Tate) Darge, of Cypress, Sheila (Jeremy) Stoffer, of Alvin, and Nick (Steph) Brunson, of Houston.
