Mary Jo Henderson Obituary

Mary Jo Henderson, age 92, was born in Austin, Texas on February 23, 1931.  She died on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in her apartment at The Shores Assisted Living facility of congestive heart failure and is now in the presence of her Lord, Jesus Christ. Mary Jo graduated from high school in West Columbia, TX in 1949. She and her family moved to Alvin in 1963. Through the years, she worked in Alvin at the Southwestern Bell office and Sears catalog store. Her last formal employment was with Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance Company, but she felt her most important role in life was as a mother and homemaker as her family and church always came first. Mary Jo and her husband, Don, enjoyed many years together traveling the United States and Canada in their motorhome.

She is survived by her six children: Patricia Martin Hill and her husband, Roger, of League City; Penny Martin Owens and her husband, Ray, of Liberty, MO; Peggy Martin Dailey of Webster; Michael L. Henderson and his wife, Paula of Alvin; Donna Henderson Hulet and her husband, Terry, of League City; and Laura Henderson Strain and her husband Vernon, of Alvin; sixteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson along with her brothers, James Wilson and Joe Wilson and his wife, Tammy; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Ray Henderson; her father Jim Wilson; and mother and stepfather, Era and Harley Kay; brother, Carl Alexander; and sister, Judy Wilson Meyers.

The family wants to thank the staff at The Shores and Regal Estates for their devoted care of Mary Jo.
