Judith (Judi) Leigh Mayes, age 72, of Dickinson Texas died at home on Saturday December 9, 2017 surrounded by her family. Judi was born April 27, 1945 in Buffalo NY. She moved westward, following her parents, Hugh Putnam Avery and Cecilia Culberson Avery, settling near them in Texas in 1976. She made herself an honorary Texan after falling in love with the history, and landscape, especially the Bluebonnets. She worked in the travel industry until she found employment at Barrios Technology, Judi got to go to NASA every day and it was a profound honor for her to be a part of the space program and to help the people there. She never considered it work. Judi was tireless in the care and saving of animals. A stray on the roadside was bound to get a ride, a meal and a trip to a shelter after all resources had been exhausted to find their home. Many lucky dogs and cats found a new forever home under her roof.
Judi will remain forever loved by her daughters Heather Leigh Mayes of Dickinson Texas and Kelley Colleen Neschich of League City Texas, and deeply missed by her son-in- law, Paul Neschich and her two beloved grandsons Zachary William Neschich and Kieran Avery Neschich of League City, Texas. She will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Hugh Randolph (Randy) Avery of Kalispell Montana and Robert Edward Avery of Houston Texas.
A Celebration of Judi’s life will be held Saturday December 16th at Armand Bayou Nature Center 12 until 2. In honor of her Texas spirit please wear boots and blue jeans if you have them.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Bay Area SPCA in Bacliff, Texas, Armand Bayou Nature Center or any no kill animal shelter in your area.
